August  2010 Fishing Report

HOT, HOT, HOT !!!! That’s all I can say. I love it !!! Well, we made it through tarpon season and now we are back in the bay fishing for Redfish, trout, mackerel, and all of the other bat fish . I even caught a few nice snook on my last trip out.

August full moon brings in the big redfish schools. It happens every year around the full moon. Schools of reds make there way into the bay and feed on the schools of sardines that are all over the shallow flats. These reds are mostly oversize, in the 30 inch range , but occasionally we get a few keepers. These big reds fight like no other fish in the bay. On light tackle , you cant beat them. I like to use live bait , but you can get them to eat spoons , jerk baits , and cut bait. These fish can be a little harder to keep up with on some days . The weather and tides are key to getting on the big schools.

Offshore fishing is getting a little better. Some keeper grouper and snapper are starting to bite along with amberjacks , sharks , and mackerel. I have  done well on the close in reefs on Spanish mackerel and getting the snappers further out. The weather has been pretty calm , so we can get out fairly easy. I am expecting the redfish to be the main focus for the next month, We are right on the best moon for the reds. We are seeing good numbers already, so it will be good for a while. Offshore should continue to get better with more fish on the reefs.

Give us a call and get a group together. Tight lines, Capt. Tom Jr.
